Strategic Plan

The Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA) launched its new five-year 2023/24-2027/28 Strategic Plan on 22 September, 2023 at a colourful ceremony held at the Bingu wa Mutharika International Convention Centre (BICC).

PMRA embarked on the review of its retiring 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, an exercise that culminated in the development of the new blue print to effectively respond to the demands of the evolving regulatory landscape of the pharmaceutical industry and the shift in the organization’s strategic direction in view of the PMRA Act, 2019.

By leveraging innovative approaches and adopting best practices, the PMRA aims to enhance its regulatory capabilities and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

The new SP identifies four key strategic priority areas which will be the focus of PMRA for the next five years. These are:

  1. Strengthen systems for efficient delivery of regulatory services.
  2. Entrench client-centric systems and mainstream technology.
  3. Establish a fit-for-purpose governance, human resource and organizational development structures.
  4. Enhance resource mobilization and financial management.
